About Me

I have an award-winning one-person green house cleaning service (customers think of me as part scientist, mechanically-minded, and very detailed), am an organic vegetable gardener, I used to do administrative work, and I was in the top 10% at a large university focused on the sciences and math. I was initially interested in life-long research but then realized I'm most interested in applying great findings. As such, I love to search the ​science journals for what others have already discovered.

​​Additionally, I'm an aging Christian woman (nearing 50) who has been unsatisfied with the healthcare I've received over the years. Paying attention to the results that come from each of my behaviors takes time and effort, but I am the only one who can give myself that kind of time and attention. Most doctors I've been to have been too rushed to gather enough details and seemed to not really care about solving the problem.​

My Experience With a Urologist
​Changed my Perspective

A urologist years ago couldn't give me an idea of what was causing my chronic urinary tract infection symptoms that were not caused by an infection. I had to study my situation to figure out on my own what was going on. It didn't take very long, and I was very surprised that the urologist did not offer as a possibility the very simple cause that I discovered. That experience was

changed my perspective.

My Experience With Most Dermatologists
​Has Not Been Good

​​I'd already been actively battling this skin yeast for about two years, but old photos showed that it had been present for about four years.
​Look for the white circles with reddish dots in the center.

Look for the white ovals and circles with reddish dots in the center. Lumpiness is another symptom. There's some of that on my chin and jawline.
​Redness, especially itchy, red flea-bite-like dots, are one sign of it spreading and actively growing.
Note that my skin is pale so the circles are not as visible as they would be on someone with dark skin.

Compare this photograph to the same cheekbone in the first photograph on the far left. That's a lot of growth during the "dormant" period of the winter.

​More recently, I have been fighting (daily) for a couple of years (and have had the condition for at least four years, per old photographs) a severe case of what I suspect is tinea versicolor (it matches what I have seen on others diagnosed with that condition, also called pityriasis versicolor), a common skin yeast (we all have it on our skin) that can grow under the skin in susceptible individuals. (It's not contagious, but I take precautions anyway.) The first of four dermatologists diagnosed it as yeast. The second took time to inspect it but didn't know what it was; I also did not want to use the synthetic product she prescribed (did some research and found an effect I didn't want). The other two barely glanced from a distance; one of those two just said not cancer, and the other accurately diagnosed the lentigo solaris spots (one is on my right temple, and about 1% of them can become cancerous in old age per internet research I've done) that were right next to my main area of concern which was my right cheekbone, but the dermatologist barely glanced at it and didn't care to inspect other areas for signs of a fungal infection. I'd gone to the dermatologist to to get a prescription antifungual, but he quickly dismissed me as having zero reason for concern.

The yeast on my face and neck was resistant to most of the products that have worked for other people, but I have finally found an effective product and another very effective product that looks like they're going to knock it out completely with regular use. It's nearing completely gone now--with no new itchy red spots appearing.

​No more itchy new spots are appearing. The chin and jawline are less lumpy, and the neck patches continue to fade and shrink. The biggest cheekbone patches are also shrinking.

The more sun I get, the more the remaining spots will become visible. It can take up to three months for the circular spots to repigment from sun exposure once the yeast is dead.

I paused treatment here until the fall since the yeast becomes most active during the summer from the much sweating and heat.​

I Sunburn in About 5 Minutes and
​Have Had Countless Sunburns

I'm also pale-skinned (redhead with freckles) and have lived in supremely hot climates most of my life including a few years in Venezuela. I tend to sunburn in about five minutes, and when I was much younger, I guess I thought I was invisible. Countless serious sunburns (extreme blistering including shins that peeled twice in about thirty minutes!) eventually resulted in strange spots ​appearing on my skin later in life.

​My experience with dermatologists has not been good (for one, they didn't check much of the body), and my internet research has told me that even presently noncancerous spots might be able to become cancerous later. Therefore, it has become a goal of mine to remove as many of them as possible now--before they can turn into something more serious and before they can cost thousands of dollars to treat surgically etc. I'm also not just treating the spots but removing as much of the sun damaged skin as possible.
